One Million Youth Leaders Beyond 2030 (1M2030) is a third party initiative to platform for youth social entrepreneurs to become societal and responsible leaders. Our launch on September 27th, 2019 at the United Nations European Headquarters brought youth spotlight speakers and experts to work together on the empowerment of youth worldwide. As a youth-driven event, it featured keynote addresses, inter-generational panel discussions, and short, impactful speeches encouraging alignment to Sustainable Development Goals. Our virtual hackathon will bring an international coalition of young leaders together on a zoom seminar with a background in programming to create solutions to global challenges, which are direct or indirect repercussions of the Covid-19 pandemic, in exchange for the experience of virtual engaging with guest speakers, prizes, and opportunities.

Us Youth in The Global Context

In the words of UN Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, “The best hope [to address UN Sustainable Development Goals] challenges is with the new generations, we need to make sure that we are able to strongly invest in those new generations.”

Forming approximately 42% of the entire world population, youth are hardly ‘the future’: they are ‘the now’. In 2015, according to the World Population Prospects, 1.2 billion people were aged between 15-24 years and it is predicted that this number will grow by 7% by 2030; youth have the potential of being present changemakers, and not just symbolic of futuristic hope. By creating leadership opportunities empowering fellow youth, we will build a generation of ignited minds and inspired leaders.

With 1M2030, we as youth are present change-makers and not just symbolic speakers of futuristic hope.

What are we building?

We want to reach the furthest first by targeting beneficiaries from Small Island Developing States (SIDS), Least Developed Countries (LDCs), and Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDCs)

1M2030 plans to achieve the following key objectives:

  1. To build a global movement of one million global youth leaders for sustainable development to carry the 17 SDGs to 2030 and beyond

  2. To facilitate the implementation of concrete youth-led projects by providing a unique combination of access to knowledge, tools, mentorship, and financing.

  3. To enhance youth-to-youth and south-to-south exchange on youth community entrepreneurship for the SDGs

The 1M2030 Ambassadors lead the day-to-day operations of the 1M2030 Initiative. An Advisory Body was established to provide technical advice and insights.
