New Partnership with Barbara Harrison Media (BHM)
BHM, UNITAR, and 1M2030 partner to cooperate on media development for youth empowerment.
29 June 2020, Geneva, Switzerland, The United Nations Institute of Training and Research (UNITAR) and Barbara Harrison Media Inc. (BHM) have recently signed a non-financial Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The two partners will work together in the framework of UNITAR’s 1M2030 Initiative (One Million Youth Leaders Beyond 2030).
In January 2020, BHM announced the launch of the company’s podcast and video streaming studio dedicated to covering a wide variety of topics that both entertain and educate listeners of its targeted demographics. BHM contracts with writers, showrunners, and talent to produce content that is then recorded locally and distributed through established channels. Besides executive producing, Barbara Harrison participates as an interviewer, host, and storyteller, following her almost three decades of experience at NBC.
Initial activities under the MoU will be the production of a pilot episode for a new podcast. In addition, the partners will explore opportunities related to other forms of media, including BHM’s video production Kids Speak Out.
The 1M2030 Initiative, launched by UNITAR and the Global Challenges Forum Foundation (GCF), is a movement to platform young social entrepreneurs to become societal and responsible leaders. Its launch on September 27th, 2019 at the United Nations European Headquarters brought youth spotlight speakers and experts to work together on the empowerment of youth worldwide.
Forming approximately 42% of the entire world population, youth are hardly ‘the future’: they are ‘the now’. In 2015, according to the World Population Prospects, 1.2 billion people were aged between 15-24 years, and it is predicted that this number will grow by 7% by 2030; youth have the potential of being present changemakers, and not just symbolic of futuristic hope. UNITAR is glad to work with BHM as a media partner for 1M2030 to amplify the voices of incoming changemakers in context of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
